About

My name is Elias Truitt and I’m a creative and editorial writer from San Jose, California. After spending my formative years as a songwriter and lyricist, my appreciation for creative writing blossomed. While getting my associate’s degree in Humanities & Arts, I developed several informative academic writings involving topics like women’s representation in media and marijuana legalization, driving my passion for research-based academic and editorial writing as well as my interest in social justice and liberal arts. Once transferring to SJSU for film & television, I began writing for the screen, honing my skills in narrative story-telling and character development. In my college experience, I wrote several short films, two feature films and multiple academic works about representation and media literacy.

During this time, I also became the social media manager for AudioVision Bay Area, a non-profit organization that specializes in providing live audio description for theater performances. In this role, I was tasked with creating engaging copy and marketing materials to advertise upcoming performances, in addition to utilizing marketing tools to reach a larger audience. This role has allowed me to explore my appreciation for theater and live performance while providing accessibility to an important community. I was also an intern for the SJSU Humanities & Arts marketing department, in which I created editorial articles for the Expressions newsletter sent to alumni and donors. Here I was able to share how SJSU was allowing students to express themselves and foster a creative community. Through this experience I also became a proficient copyeditor, using my linguistic proficiency to analyze and improve editorial or narrative pieces.

As a professional lyricist, my accredited works have garnered millions of listeners worldwide, and my touring experience has made me a more collaborative and compromising team member. Through my training with highly qualified professional writers and broadcasters, I have developed an array of communication skills that I have translated to narrative, informative and editorial writing as well as advertising and marketing skills. I am looking to continue my work in editorial writing and narrative storytelling, as well as participating in writing teams and collaborating with other writers to develop engaging content.
